At the beginning of the New Year, the motivation to reach our goals are often high, but the challenge we often face is to stay motivated and endure for the entire year. If you are one of those people, who find it difficult to follow through with your fitness goals, then the following seven tips will help you achieve your fitness goals in 2021 and beyond.
1. Establish a Workout Plan
Having a workout plan is vital for you to reach your fitness goals. It will keep you motivated, help you plan around your work schedule and other duties, and give you more structure. It will allow you to manage your time well and workout more efficiently. It will also help you to prevent undertraining or overtraining and by creating a balance in your work to rest ratio. Furthermore, having a workout plan will help your definite your goals for each session. A clear workout plan can also help you avoid physiological and phycological burnouts.
2. Set Short-erms Goals to Accomplish Long-Term Goals
Breaking down your goals into segments will help you stay motivated. Establish short-term goals by creating small daily or weekly goals, will help make your training plan more manageable and keep you motivated. When you accomplish your short-term goals your confidence level will increase, and your desire to challenge yourself to achieve the next goal will be elevated. Every short-term goal you achieve is one step closer to accomplishing your long-terms goals. We will reach our long-term goals by focusing and executing our short-term goals.
3. Set Measurable Goals
It is important to have measurable goals to help you stay motivated and determine when a specific goal is reached. This will give you clarity and direction about the progress you have made and how to proceed in reaching your ultimate goal. Having measurable goals can also help you determine your strengths and weaknesses and provide guidance in the areas that you need improvements. For example, say you are a body builder who wants to burn fat and increase muscle for an upcoming competition, you would periodically perform fat and muscle mass measurements to gain insights of your progress. Measurable goals answers the following questions:
– How much?
– How many?
– What will be an indicator of accomplishment?
4. Be Consistent
Consistency is the key to attain success. Consistency shows your commitment to your activities or goals. When you stay true to your aspirations and work accordingly, you will achieve sustainable results. In the words of Dwayne Johnson (the Rock), “success isn’t always about greatness. It’s about consistency. Consistent hard work leads to success. Greatness will come.” Get up every single day and go after your goals.
5. Eat healthy
Eat a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and good carbohydrates and fats. Also, don’t miss breakfast. It is the most important meal of the day. Consume at least three healthy meals and snacks each day. Choose meals with high nutritional content and snacks that are healthy.
6. Create Accountability
Accountability is essential in sustaining long-term success. You are responsible for your own actions and results. Analyze your thoughts and actions often to see if they are aligning with your goals. You can also share your goals with loved ones and friends for them to hold you accountable and support your journey. Accountability will keep you focus on your goals and the process.
7. Celebrate Small Wins
Every achievement is a vital part of your journey. So, often we fail to celebrate the small accomplishments. Each small win is a step closer to achieving your ultimate goal and serve as tools for tracking your progress and build your confidence. Research showed that when we achieve something, it activates the reward center of our brains and cause us to feel more confident and motivated.
