Stress is very common in our lives and results from various events and situations. It is a feeling of being overwhelmed or incapable to manage mental or emotional pressure. Stress can be negative or positive, but regardless of the triggers of stress, it can have serious implications if not dealt with effectively. The following are 6 simple ways to ease stress and remain happy, healthy and productive.
Positive Self-Talk
Positive self-talk is one way to reduce the effect of stress. Stressful situations or events can cause us to spiral down a path of negativity and hopelessness. As a result, we have to make a conscious effort to think positively. We have to look for the good in every situation and tell ourselves that we will get through it. We cannot afford to be victims of our circumstances. We must blaze a trail of positivity and hopefulness to minimize the effect of stress.
Exercise
During physical activity the body releases endorphins, the “feel good” hormone. This hormone helps to manage the consequence of stress by boosting our mood. Research shows that regular exercise is effective in managing stress and anxiety. 30 minutes of physical activity can do wonders, not only for our physical health, but can also help us cope with life’s stresses.
Eat Healthy
A healthy-balance diet will provide the nutrients we need for sustained energy, good mood and help to combat stress. Some people tend to eat more or drink alcohol when they are feeling stress, but these actions may feel good temporary, but in the long run can lead to even more stress. To combat stress, intake healthy carbohydrates, proteins, fats, fruits and vegetables. Also, make sure to hydrate well. These behaviors are better stress coping mechanics.
Listen to Music
Music can have a profound effect on our minds and bodies. Positive uplifting music can help you feel more optimistic and positive. Slow tempo music can help relax your muscles, put your mind at ease and help reduce the effect of stress.
Talk with Family or Friend
It helps you cope better when you share what you are feeling. Talk to a trusted, strong, positive family member or friend about the stressful situation or event that you are facing. Their advice can help boost your mood and help you regain mental control and reduce the effect of stress.
Sleep Well
Sleeping is one of most effective ways to relax the mind and help the body recover from stress. Eight hours of quality sleep will help restore and refresh your mind and body and help you to wake up feeling reenergize and less stress. Also, a 20 minutes nap is also another method to aid with stress management. If you are feeling overwhelmed, pause and take nap and wake up feeling renewed.
