We all know that being active is great for our body, mind and soul, but we often talk ourselves into skipping workouts. Being active has been proven to have physical and mental benefits, improve one’s overall life expectancy, as well as aid in the reduction and management of stress.
Life can be quite busy and demanding, which makes it easy to neglect workouts. As such, we have to conjure up the mental strength and commitment to workout consistently.
Read on for 4 tips to workout consistently.
1. Schedule It
One of the best ways to make sure you workout consistently, is to add it to your schedule. Pick a daily time slot that works for you and put it on your schedule, in the same that you schedule your meetings and appointments. In this way, you are more likely to get it done. Furthermore, this action will help you create a routine and build habits. Treat your scheduled workouts as you would any other tasks, with seriousness. You can also view your workout times as a date with self. This will help you to hold true to each session and allow nothing to get in the way of your workouts.
2. Set Goals
It is easier to stay motivated when we are working towards an end goal. So, set attainable goals and make daily efforts towards them. Measure your results and celebrate your progress, small and big alike. For instance, say during a certain workout period you want to lose a certain amount of weight, you don’t have to celebrate only when the goal is achieved in its entirety, but rather celebrate every increment of pounds or ounces you lose along the way. Also, be patient and stay committed to your workouts, even when things are not progressing as fast as you would like. Remember, nothing of value happens overnight. It requires hard work and consistency to achieve great things.
3. Start Small
It can be overwhelming to go from not exercising to a five days or 1.5 hours per week workout plans. Start by committing 2 or 3 days per week to working out. You can also set your workouts for as short as 10 minutes per session and as your confidence and fitness improve, you begin to work your way up to 30 minutes, 60 minutes or more per session. Additionally, you can start with the types of physical activities you are most comfortable with, this will build your confidence and help you to take on bigger challenges as you progress.
4. Have a Team
Having workout partners can be helpful, especially if you are a person who finds it difficult to workout solo. Join a group or invite a few family members or friends that are interested and serious about exercising to be a part of your workout squad. Here you can find additional motivation to stay committed and consistent.
Summary
Remember, to workout consistently and develop a routine and build habit, schedule your workout times, set clearly defined goals, start your workout routine with small increments and workout with a team of committed individuals. This will help you to stay motivated and consistent.
