Exercise is amazing, important and an ideal activity for everyone. It does not discriminate by age or gender. The first step is to start where you are, have a progressive plan and be consistent. Exercise is as important to your health and well-being as getting a good night sleep, eating healthy and obeying the traffic rules when driving. In this article I have highlighted 4 reasons to exercise.
As an athlete, for most of my life, I am fortunate to be involved in a consistent exercise routine for over two decades. Exercise helps me feel alive and energetic from the inside out and I cannot imagine my life without this daily activity.
The following 4 reasons to exercise will give you deeper insights in to the importance of exercise.
1. Stronger Muscles, Bones and Youthfulness
Exercise builds and preserves muscles and bones strength and mass, it improves endurance and help you to look and feel younger. Research shows that muscle mass begins to decline around age thirty and so does bones mass. By embarking on regular exercise and strength training will help to strengthen your muscles and bones, as well as preserve their mass.
Consistent exercise will help you maintain your muscle tone and reactive strength, which are vital for vibrancy and mobility. It will also help you to maintain strong bones and mass and slow down or avoid the development of hunched back and rounded shoulders, which can happen as we age. Exercise is also an effective way to maintain youthfulness for decades as it slows down the aging process.
2. Reduce Stress and Anxiety
Exercise can help you feel better, happier and give you more confidence. It is a proven activity to improve your mood and help reduce stress and anxiety. Research shows that thirty minutes of aerobic exercise, such as walking, running or swimming three to five times per week can help alleviate depression and contribute to better mood.
3. Boost Cognitive Abilities
Exercise, especially high intensity sessions, increases blood supply to your brain, which can help your gray matter to maintain good health. Research shows that exercise can help keep the mind sharp and reduce brain decline by up to ten years.
4. For Longer Life
Even though none of us knows the length of our existence, we can embark on practices, like regular exercise to help improve our chance of extended life. Not only that, exercise can help you look younger, it can also help you to feel better in your body: stronger, more flexible and give your more energy to enjoy life to the fullest.
Conclusion
Exercise is an ultimate tribute to your body. It strengthens the body, reduces stress, increase cognitive abilities and promotes energy and long life.
