VCB FIT New Year's Resolutions

Being more fit and healthy is one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions, but a large percentage of us often abandoned this resolution by March. In essence, resolutions are easy to establish, but are challenging to achieve. In this article, I outlined six ways on how to stick to your New Year’s fitness resolutions.

1.  Establish the Importance of Your Fitness Resolutions

A fitness resolution is often attached to something bigger than just getting fit. There is often a deeper motivation that pushes us to keep going when we feel like giving up. It is important to determine the motivational factors that will propel you towards your fitness goals. So, when you are not feeling up to it, you can pull strength from the importance of why your fitness resolutions are worth achieving.

2.  Write Down Your Fitness Resolutions

You can house your resolutions in your head, but it is more helpful if you write them down and display them proudly. Research shows that we are more likely to achieve our goals when we write them down and make them visible. You can also share your resolutions with family and friends.  This will solidify your determination for achieving them and they can support you on your journey.

3.  Define Clearly What You Want to Accomplish

Be specific and realistic about what you want to achieve, don’t leave it vague. When we are clear about what we want to accomplish, we are more likely to stick to it. Establish exactly what you want to achieve and how you will work towards it. If you desire to lose weight, be specific about how much pounds you want to lose and set deadlines for how you want the process to unfold.

4.  Start with Small Goals and Build Momentum

Don’t do too much too quickly. Start small and increase as you build strength and confidence.  Divide your fitness goals into sessions with small challenges and celebrate each win no matter how small it is. Embrace your process knowing that each step is taking you closer to your goals.

5.  Measure and Record Your Progress

It is helpful to keep track of your progress. So, measure and record along the way. This will help you determine how much exercise you are performing and give you insights on how to proceed. Whether you are logging your hours of weekly workouts or counting the number of daily steps you take, it is important to be in the know and create a record for reference.

6.  Create Accountability

Make yourself accountable. Also, share your resolutions with family and close friends for support and accountability. By having an accountability system in place, you will be better able to resist the urge of quitting, while building and maintaining good habits that will help you achieve your goals.

Summary

Remember, to achieve your New Year’s fitness resolutions, establish the importance of your fitness goals. Mare sure your goals are clearly defined, start small and build momentum. Measure and record your progress along the way, make yourself accountable and enlist family and friends for support and accountability.
